Mental Health Community Service Fears Bankruptcy
Advocates plea to keep peer support channels available.
Indianapolis, Indiana, September 23, 2024 – Circle City Clubhouse announces the impending closure of its doors due to significant financial obstacles, unless immediate funding support is secured.
As a trusted and vital resource for individuals recovering from serious mental illness, Circle City Clubhouse has played a key role in fostering community, building life skills, and supporting recovery in Indianapolis. Accredited by Clubhouse International, Circle City Clubhouse employs a non-traditional approach that helps its members overcome social isolation, build meaningful relationships, develop their talents, and transform from individuals seen as patients to those who have unique gifts to contribute to the world.
For over 70 years, Clubhouses around the globe have been the foundation of recovery for people with mental illness. Extensive research shows that Clubhouses improve members’ chances of gaining and retaining employment, living independently, reducing hospitalizations, and achieving better health outcomes – ultimately driving down healthcare costs.
Despite its proven effectiveness, Circle City Clubhouse is at risk of closing, making it the second such facility in Indiana to face this challenge within two years. As one of only ten remaining Clubhouses statewide, its potential closure would be a significant loss to the local mental health community.
Circle City Clubhouse is urgently seeking a partnership with an organization willing to cover operational costs and keep its doors open. Additionally, Circle City is appealing to the public for support through its GoFundMe page, encouraging donations and personal stories from those impacted by its services.
