I’m excited to announce an event I’ve been working on putting together for the past five months: Modern Feminism.
For the past few months, every time I’ve turn to someone to discuss our mental health, our values, and how we envision our future, I’ve walked away with one word in mind: community.
I couldn’t shake the feeling that not only would my loved ones and I benefit from finding community, but that I had a responsibility to play a role in building that community.
As I continued talking to leaders and role models - especially those on the Young Women’s Advisory Council with the Center of Wellness for Urban Women - Modern Feminism was born.
On February 18th, we invite you to our local East Washington Street Library to hear from an inspirational panel of feminist activists and advocates sharing their stories of advocacy, identity, and community:
Angela Carr Klitzsch: CEO of Women4Change Indiana, dedicated to advancing health, economic mobility, and safety for women and girls.
Ebony Chappel: Award-winning journalist, community health advocate, and creator of What’s Good? with Ebony Chappel.
Belinda Drake: Executive Director of Trans Solutions Research and Resource Center, leading transformative advocacy for the TGNC community.
Rachael Heger: National Director of Affiliate Outreach at I Support the Girls, an international organization that collects and distributes essential items, including bras, underwear, and menstrual hygiene products, allowing individuals experiencing homelessness, impoverishment, or distress to stand tall with dignity
Makenzie Lukas: Young Women’s Health Associate at the Center for Wellness for Urban Women and advocate for health equity and reproductive justice.
Tamara Winfrey-Harris: President of Women’s Fund of Central Indiana, acclaimed author of The Sisters Are Alright: Changing the Broken Narrative of Black Women in America (Berrett-Koehler 2015) and Dear Black Girl: Letters from Your Sisters on Stepping into Your Power (Berrett-Koehler 2021).
Together, we’ll explore stories of advocacy, identity, and connection while diving into nuanced questions about feminism today.
Keep an eye on my LinkedIn over the next few weeks to learn more about each amazing speaker.
Seating is limited to 60 people, so register now on Eventbrite to attend. I hope to see you there!
