Centers of Wellness for Urban Women Young Women's Advisory Council (YWAC)

YWAC is a council of young women focused on leadership, initiative, and empowerment, advocating for policies that affect our lives.

I have participated in three cohorts, each consisting of 15 weeks of community health training and education, followed by six months of event planning and advocacy initiatives.

OBJECTIVES Conduct research and engage with community members to identify key issues impacting young adults and marginalized communities. Develop and implement strategic plans to address identified issues, ensuring alignment with community needs and priorities. Advocate for equitable policies at local, state, and national levels, working to influence decision-makers and promote systemic change. Build and maintain relationships with community partners, organizations, and stakeholders to create a collaborative approach to advocacy.

Organized public education wellness workshops and led marketing for full-council events.
Advocated for young women’s health through digital campaigns, community events, and civic engagement.

Juneteenth Open Mic Night (~40 attendees)

Community-focused event highlighting local artists and fostering community connection.

Role: Oversaw operations, including scheduling, venue coordination, talent coordination, and community outreach. Managed day-of logistics, including resource preparation, catering/vendor coordination, marketing, and task delegation. Served as on-site point of contact to ensure smooth operations and a positive attendee experience.

Modern Feminism (~30 attendees)

Community-focused event exploring intersectionality in feminism, featuring local thought leaders and fostering community dialogue and community connection. The event was originally sold out (60 tickets), but had lower attendance due to weather.

Role: Fully designed, coordinated, and executed the event, including scheduling, venue coordination, speaker coordination, and community outreach. Managed day-of logistics, including resource preparation, catering, marketing, and attendee evaluation.

Pots and Propaganda (~20 attendees)

Educational event discussing health while gardening, highlighting local resources, and community connection.

Role: Supported planning and execution, including scheduling, venue coordination, and community outreach. Managed day-of logistics, including resource preparation, marketing, and delegation of responsibilities. Served as the primary on-site point of contact to ensure smooth operations and a positive attendee experience.
